he mission of the National High School Climate Forum (NHSCF) is to foster an exchange of ideas between student environmental leaders across the country, while also educating these students about climate change. The NHSCF accomplishes its mission through speaker events, monthly newsletters, discussion sessions, and our annual Youth Summit in May.
80% of people displaced by climate impacts are women and girls, yet only 33% of negotiators at COP26 were women. In order to address the gap in gender-focused climate finance, the UK pledged £165 million towards projects which address gender inequality in climate through the empowering of women. Education for girls is central to addressing gender inequality and combating the climate crisis
Doughnut Economics is an ecologically safe and socially just economic model developed by the economist Kate Raworth in 2012. The Doughnut diagram consists of two concentric rings: a social foundation and an ecological ceiling. There are seven main principles to implement Doughnut Economics.
The GCF is a UN body and the world’s largest climate fund, dedicated to investing in mitigation and adaptation efforts in developing countries. The fund has had many successes, including in projects relating to the Great Green Wall and the pandemic recovery. The GCF’s work has also been criticised, however, for lacking transparency, focusing too heavily on mitigation and failing to engage with minority communities.
The ReFuel EU Aviation proposal offers targets for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and synthetic aviation fuels from 2025 to 2050 The policy proposal safeguards competitiveness in the air transport industry while ensuring that CO2 emissions linked to fuel in the aviation sector may be reduced by circa 60-61% by 2050 compared to the baseline year The emergence of SAF on the market would lead to a dramatic decline in the reliance of aviation on fossil jet fuel, leading to a 65% reduction of the latter by 2050
Very little progress was made at COP26 in relation to climate change and the oceans and coastal communities. Two initiatives were launched at COP26. One initiative was to conserve 30% of the world’s oceans by 2030 and the second, the world’s first Blue Bond announced by Fiji. Have to wait to see if further action will be taken at the 2022 UN Oceans Conference in Lisbon.

The climate and biodiversity crises are interconnected. By becoming “nature positive”, humankind would enhance its resilience and simultaneously reduce GHGs. “Nature positive by 2030” means not only immediately halting biodiversity depletion, but also restoring nature and becoming net positive by 2030.

Adaptation finance progressed, but not enough to cover adaptation costs. Loss and damage was a major sticking point at the conference. Developed countries stood their ground meaning little action was taken on loss and damage.
